Zurich Airport introduces Sunflower Lanyard for people with invisible disabilities
Zurich Airport Ltd. and its partner companies are setting an example for inclusion: the internationally established Sunflower Lanyard will be introduced on 1 November. The green lanyard with a sunflower motif enables people with invisible disabilities to discreetly indicate that they may need more time or special consideration.
Not every disability is visible at first glance. Autism, ADHD, dementia, epilepsy, and Tourette syndrome are examples of conditions that are hardly visible in everyday life but can pose a major challenge for those affected, especially in busy places. The Sunflower Lanyard was introduced internationally as a symbol so that these people can receive appropriate support. The lanyard is now also available at Zurich Airport.
With the introduction of the Sunflower Lanyard, we are making a further contribution to greater inclusion at Zurich Airport. This simple symbol makes it easier for affected passengers to communicate and provides our employees with guidance on how to deal sensitively with those affected.
Voluntary and free of charge
Anyone who would like to wear a lanyard can obtain one from designated distribution points at Zurich Airport:
- Check-in 1 PRM Pick-up Point (Meeting point for passengers with reduced mobility)
- Check-in 2 PRM Pick-up Point (Meeting point for passengers with reduced mobility)
- Information Desk Arrival 2
The offer is voluntary and free of charge for those affected. Wearers of a Sunflower Lanyard go through the normal process at the airport and are not entitled to any additional services. However, wearing the lanyard helps others recognize that the person may need more time or assistance.

They learn how to approach affected passengers, help, and maintain discretion. The Sunflower Lanyard is an internationally recognized symbol. With its introduction, Zurich Airport is becoming part of a global network that aims to make travel more comfortable for people with invisible disabilities.
