MSCI is one of the world’s leading ESG rating agencies and evaluates companies based on how well they manage industry-specific sustainability risks. Companies are rated on a scale from CCC to AAA. A rating of CCC or B identifies laggards with room for improvement. Average companies receive a rating from BB to A, while industry leaders achieve AA or AAA.

The rating agency Sustainalytics assesses how exposed companies are to industry-specific ESG risks and how effectively they manage them. The rating places companies and their sustainability risks on a scale from 40+ to 0 points and divides them into five severity levels from "severe" to "negligible". A lower score means lower ESG risk.

ISS ESG evaluates companies’ sustainability performance and their management of environmental, social and governance risks using an industry-specific approach. The rating scale ranges from D- to A+. D- signals poor performance, while A+ indicates excellent performance. Companies can also receive "Prime Status" and are considered particularly sustainable if they meet or exceed their industry threshold.
