Temporary shift of check-in locations

Summary

During the winter flight schedule 2023/24, extensive construction work will take place at Zurich Airport on the baggage carousels of the counters in Check-in 1. 23 counters in Check-in 1 will not be available during this time. This has an impact on the passenger process.

The baggage handling systems in Check-in 1 at Zurich Airport have reached the end of their life cycle and need to be replaced. In a first step, the 23 installations in the north of Check-in 1 will be replaced between the end of October 2023 and March 2024. Then, during the winter flight schedule 2024/25, the installations in the south of the check-in area. The work will take place in the winter half-year in each case because this is a period with fewer passengers. The affected counter areas will be completely closed and separated by construction walls. Noise and dust emissions will be reduced to a minimum.

Check-in reorganization

The counters for First, Senator, Star Gold and Business Class passengers of the Lufthansa Group (Swiss, Edelweiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines) and Croatioa Airlines will remain in Check-in 1, but will be moved from the north to the south of the concourse during this initial construction phase.

Economy Class customers of the Lufthansa Group (LHG) and Croatia Airlines will be completely relocated to Check-in 3 for the first construction phase. There, LHG will offer PRM, family and sports counters in addition to self-bag drop counters and conventional check-in counters. Vueling and Easy Jet will be temporarily relocated from Check-in 3 to Check-in 2, Row 3. In addition, the check-in for TAP Air Portugal will be moved from check-in 2 to check-in 1 during this construction phase.

Due to the high number of passengers in Check-in 3, the bulky baggage counter will be open during the entire operating time and the PRM Pick-Up Point (PuP) will be operated by a staff member between 07:00 and 12:00 in addition to the usual on-demand service. For customers of the LHG a same-day ticket office in Check-In 3 is available from 10:00 to 18:00 , in addition to the one in Check-in 1.

In order to keep the operational impact on passengers as minimal as possible, extensive measures have been taken together with LHG and Swissport, such as additional staff, adjustments to the routing and adjustments in communications. The temporary routing during the construction phase is marked in blue.
