Nighttime construction and maintenance work at Zurich Airport
Construction and maintenance work is carried out regularly at Zurich Airport. Due to ongoing flight operations, certain nighttime work will also have to be carried out in 2025. Zurich Airport Ltd. strives to keep noise emissions as low as possible and asks for your understanding in the event of any inconvenience.
Runways, taxiways and apron areas at Zurich Airport are exposed to high loads. This leads to wear and tear and damage to the operating areas, which must be repaired by means of construction and maintenance work. Some of this work must be carried out during the night so as not to unduly interfere with flight operations.
Hotel/India apron refurbishment
As part of the ongoing construction work in the refurbishment of the Hotel/India apron, a new main drainage channel will be built between runway 16/34 and the apron at dock B from the middle of February. This also requires noisy sheet pile work, which has to be installed on a section during the night and removed again once the channel has been built. Runway joint sealant
The joint sealant on runway 16/34 will be repaired with the annual maintenance work. In total, around 50 kilometres of joints will be refurbished in order to maintain the surface sealing and prevent damage from penetrating water. This work will be carried out during the nighttime airport shutdown between March and August; no major noise emissions are to be expected.
Optimisation of wastewater separation
Technical adjustments are being made at the Delta pumping station in order to optimise wastewater separation. The work will begin in June and is expected to be completed in November. This work will only be carried out at specific times during the night – without any major noise emissions.
New radar
From March to September 2025, Skyguide will build a new radar between Zone West and runway 10/28 to monitor all ground movements. This radar will replace the radar on the existing tower. The construction work will likewise only be carried out at specific times during the night – without any major noise emissions.
General maintenance work
Other minor maintenance work is also being carried out throughout the airport grounds. Care is taken to ensure that maintenance work that is being carried out in sensitive areas and would have an excessive impact on flight operations is performed only at night.
