First scheduled flight marks start of operations at Noida International Airport
This morning, the first scheduled flight landed at Noida International Airport in India. This marks the beginning of operations at the airport developed by Zurich Airport Limited. The new airport expands the range of flights in India's capital region – one of the fastest-growing economic and aviation regions in the world.
Commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport (IATA: DXN) began today. The first scheduled flight to land was an Airbus A320 from IndiGo, arriving from Lucknow shortly before 8:00 a.m. local time. The same aircraft took off shortly afterwards for Bangalore. A gradual expansion of flights is expected in the coming months. Other airlines, among them Akasa Air, will also add connections. In the first phase, 17 destinations will be offered from Noida International Airport.
India is one of the most dynamic aviation markets in the world. With the start of operations, the economic region around the Indian capital, Delhi, will receive additional services for passenger and freight traffic. Noida International Airport is helping to meet the increasing demand for air travel in northern India and further enhance connectivity to one of the world's most populous regions.
We are proud to have completed Noida International Airport in around four years of construction – despite major challenges such as the coronavirus pandemic or geopolitical crises. The first scheduled flight is another important step in our long-term commitment to the Indian aviation market.
Second airport project in India
International business is a key pillar of Zurich Airport Limited’s diversified business strategy and is becoming increasingly important. Noida is the company's second airport project in India to be developed from scratch after Bangalore. Following the successful project development, commissioning and management of Bangalore Airport, Zurich Airport Limited sold its last shares in Bangalore in 2017. In 2019, Zurich Airport Limited was once again awarded the contract for a major project in India: the construction and operation of Noida International Airport in the greater Delhi area – this time as the sole shareholder.
About Noida International Airport
In a first phase, Noida International Airport will operate with a capacity of 12 million passengers per year and will have one runway, a passenger terminal and 25 stands. The development of the airport during the 40-year concession period is divided into a total of four phases – with a final capacity of up to 70 million passengers per year and two runways. The concession for Noida International Airport started in 2021. Capital expenditure for Phase 1 amounts to around CHF 750 million. This makes Zurich Airport Limited one of the largest infrastructure investors in India at present.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) was established for the development, construction and operation of Noida International Airport. The company is responsible for the implementation of the public-private partnership project together with the government of Uttar Pradesh and the state concession authority Noida International Airport Limited. The local management team consists of Indian and Swiss executives.
YIAPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG (ZAIA). ZAIA, in turn, is a 100% subsidiary of Zurch Airport Limited and develops and operates airports in Latin America, the Caribbean and India.
