First Airbus A350 with Swiss registration lands in Zurich
Another chapter in Swiss aviation: The first Airbus A350 with Swiss registration is expected to land in Zurich on Thursday. The Edelweiss aircraft will touch down in Zurich in the afternoon. The noise emissions of the A350 are significantly lower than those of its predecessor, the A340.
A long-awaited day for airport fans and airplane spotters: the first Airbus A350 of an airline based here lands in Zurich. The Edelweiss A350-900 is expected to arrive in Zurich at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. The aircraft will be arriving from Lourdes Airport (LDE) as flight WK5159 and is expected to land on runway 16. The best view of the landing and subsequent approach to the stand is from observation deck B. Please note, changes at short notice are possible. Edelweiss will commence scheduled services with the A350 on April 1st.
The Airbus A350 is one of the most advanced long-haul aircraft in the world. Developed with a lightweight fuselage structure made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, it consumes up to 25 percent less fuel than comparable predecessor models. Its aerodynamic wings with curved sharklets further improve efficiency.
The A350 in Zurich: Who flies it?
The A350 is already a familiar guest in Zurich, as several international airlines already use the model on their routes to Zurich. These include:
- Cathay Pacific: flies the Hong Kong - Zurich route with the A350
- Qatar Airways: Uses the A350 on routes to Doha.
- Ethiopian Airlines: Flies with the A350 between Addis Ababa and Zurich.
- Etihad Airways: uses the A350 for the Abu Dhabi - Zurich connection.
This summer, SWISS will also receive its first Airbus A350, following Edelweiss. In total, both airlines will fleet 16 of these modern jets in the coming years to replace older long-haul aircraft.
The A350 is significantly less noisy
The Airbus A350 is considered to be one of the most noise-efficient wide-body aircraft ever. Thanks to the latest engine technology and improved aerodynamics, its noise level is significantly lower than that of older long-haul aircraft. It can therefore also contribute to reducing night-time noise.
