Charity Water at Zurich Airport Raises CHF 164,000 for the Schweizer Tafel Foundation

Summary

From January to May 2026, CHF 164,024 was raised for the Schweizer Tafel Foundation through the sale of “Charity Water” at the duty-free locations at Zurich Airport. Through this joint project, Zurich Airport Ltd. and Avolta regularly support a rotating selection of charitable organisations. Since June 2026, the Werkstätte Drahtzug Association has been the beneficiary.

Since 2014, Avolta’s (formerly Dufry) duty-free shops at Zurich Airport have been selling Swiss mineral water for CHF 2.50 per bottle. For every bottle sold, CHF 0.50 is donated to a charitable organisation.

Schweizer Tafel Foundation

For five months, the Schweizer Tafel Foundation was the beneficiary of the Charity Water project. The foundation collects surplus food that is still in perfect condition from producers, wholesalers and retailers and distributes it free of charge to social institutions such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, women’s shelters and food distribution centres. Having rescued more than 8,500 tonnes of food in 2025, the Schweizer Tafel makes an effective contribution to sustainability and solidarity: it saves food, conserves resources and supports people affected by poverty.

“This commitment demonstrates the importance of solidarity in our society. By purchasing a bottle of Charity Water, passengers at Zurich Airport are showing their support in a way that is immensely valuable to our daily work. We would like to sincerely thank Zurich Airport Ltd., Avolta and all passengers for their support,” says Marc Ingold, Managing Director of the Schweizer Tafel Foundation.

Outlook: Support for the Verein Werkstätte Drahtzug

Since June 2026, proceeds from the sale of Charity Water have benefited the Werkstätte Drahtzug Association. The Zurich-based organisation supports people with mental health conditions on their path back into working life and towards independent living. Through supported employment, vocational training and integration programmes, Drahtzug creates new opportunities for those affected and promotes their social and professional participation.

Long-standing Commitment

The Schweizer Tafel Foundation was the twelfth organisation to receive support through the “Charity Water” project. Since the project was launched in 2014, Zurich Airport Ltd. and Avolta have jointly supported social and charitable organisations. Previous partners include the Wisli Foundation, the Kinderhilfe Sternschnuppe Foundation and the University Children’s Hospital Zurich.
