A-Port Chile S.A., a 100% subsidiary of Flughafen Zürich AG, was awarded with the new concession for the International Airport Diego Aracena. The airport is located in northern Chile approx. 40 km. south of the harbor city of Iquique (300’000 inhabitants in the metro area) and serves as the point of entry to the Atacama Desert. The airport is the fifth busiest in Chile with 1.2 million annual passengers, supported by tourism and the local mining industry.

With this award, A-port Chile S.A. has secured the continued right to expand and operate the airport beyond the end of its current concession which will conclude in March 2018. The new concession has a traffic dependent variable concession period, to expected 18 and 25 years. A-port Chile S.A. will expand and improve the airport’s infrastructure to achieve its maximum growth potential, with the mission to offer best quality services to passengers, airlines and other stakeholders.

Flughafen Zürich AG has a strong track record of owning and operating airports in Chile. In addition to Iquique, it currently owns through A-port Chile S.A. the concession for the international airport Cerro Moreno (2.0 million annual passengers) which is serving the city of Antofagasta.
