After an 18-month construction period, ten new open stands were commissioned today in the south of Zurich Airport, around two months ahead of schedule. They bear the name "Golf" and will in future accommodate category C aircraft in an area totalling eight hectares. This includes aircraft such as the C series (future A220), A320 and B737. All the stands will be equipped with an aircraft power supply. The Echo taxiway was extended towards the south as part of the development.

Replacement measures implemented
A replacement was required for existing infrastructure in order to build the new stands. For instance, the landside parking spaces to the north-west of the P65 car park (opposite the Runway 34 restaurant) were repositioned. In addition, two replacement locations were created for the southerly snow depot, which had to be moved. A new retention filter basin also had to be set up to the north of runway 28 for the rainwater that accumulates on the newly paved "Delta South" area covering 2,300 m2. All replacement measures (parking spaces, snow depots and retention filter basin) were commissioned by October 2017. 

Response to rising demand
The new stands will help to cover rising demand for handling stands for European traffic. Thanks to their proximity to the existing infrastructure they will also contribute to optimising operational processes and continue to guarantee short transfer times at Zurich Airport.
