High-speed taxiways enable aircraft to exit the landing runway more rapidly so the runway can be released to the next aircraft more quickly. The two planned high-speed taxiways for runway 28 are part of the measures set out in the SAIP detailed plan for Zurich Airport. Official planning permission was granted in December 2017.

Construction work for the first high-speed taxiway "Bravo 7" (see B7 in the visualisation) will commence on the western side of the airport in the middle of the coming week and is expected to last six months, with the taxiway scheduled to come into operation in November 2018. Owing to its location in an area that may not be entered during the airport's operating hours, the work will have to be carried out at night after flight operations have ended. The building work for the second high-speed taxiway "Lima 7" (see L7 in the visualisation) will also start at the same time. Some of this work can be carried out during the daytime while flights are still operating. The second high-speed taxiway is due to be completed by June 2019. 

It is anticipated that the night-time work required for both taxiways will be finished by November 2018. In order to minimise construction noise, only state-of-the-art vehicles and machinery that meet the limits specified in the relevant ordinance governing the noise of outdoor machinery will be used. Reversing beeps will also be replaced by flashing lights and reversing cameras.
