This year, Zurich Airport and Rome Fiumicino both came in third in the Europe category. Sochi took first place, with Malta, Moscow Sheremetyevo and Porto sharing second place. The good placement of Zurich Airport is the result of close cooperation between the airport operator and the 280 or so partner companies, as well as the dedication of its employees every single day.

The international umbrella association of airport operators, based in Montreal, has presented the ASQ Award each year since 2006. The winner is determined on the basis of surveys. Passengers worldwide are asked about their satisfaction on the day they travel via airports. Using a standard questionnaire, this produces around 600,000 individual replies each year. The passengers are asked to assess 34 different indicators, including the respective airport’s accessibility, check-in and range of shops and restaurants. Participation is voluntary and the aim is for airports to continually benchmark their quality standards against one another and improve their performance.
