Amended hand baggage rules for direct flights to the USA
New security provisions issued by the American Transport Security Administration TSA will enter into force on 30 June 2018 for direct flights to the USA. Passengers and airlines are required to comply with these official rules.
The provisions apply to all powders and powder-like substances. Only containers of max. 350 ml may be carried in hand baggage. Medications, baby food and urn contents are exempt from the rule. The same applies to all containers of powders or granules purchased in the airport’s duty free stores and sealed in a plastic bag. All passengers on direct flights to the USA will face checks at the gates. This may result in longer waiting times. Passengers travelling to the USA are advised to pack containers with powder in their checked luggage and to contact their airline directly if they have any further questions.
